Self-Care Tips During Quarantine

by | May 15, 2020

As news and social media sites flood with updates regarding the current pandemic, its easy get caught up in the chaos. In this extended state of social distancing and self-quarantining, it is crucial we are tending to to our mental, emotional and physical health.

What is Self-Care?

Self-Care has been the popular buzzword surrounding this topic, and it has many different definitions. This is probably because Self-Care means something different to everyone. It is essentially taking time for you, doing what feels good for you. It can be anything from taking a long shower to playing with your pet to simply just stopping and taking a couple deep breaths. It is all about being aware of your feelings and tending to them, which is proven to help us refocus, manage stress, and keep going.

Here a list of ideas of how you can implement Self-Care into your quarantine routine:

Stretch or Exercise
As a result of gym and outdoor park closures, people are finding new and creative ways to stay active indoors. Studies show that adults need to participate in two different types of physical activity for at least 150 minutes every week to improve health-aerobic activity and muscle strengthening. To stay active and reduce sedentary behavior, the World Health Organization recommends taking short breaks during the day, following online exercise classes, walking in small spaces, standing up and relaxing.

Attend a Virtual Event

Even though we can’t physically attend events we may have been looking forward to this summer, so many events are being held online for free or a small fee. These events can energize us and make us feel as if we are *almost* actually there. Check out if your favorite artist, speaker, or venue is holding any virtual events. You can find events through checking out one of the many online events sites, such as Eventbrite. You can even attend online classes, meditations and much more. Explore various event pages and social media sites to find some events you can attend to give yourself something exciting to look forward to.
