College Move-In Safety and Security Tips

by | Aug 20, 2019

The beginning of the school year is a busy time in the life of students and faculty across the country. Whether moving into campus housing, an apartment across town, or a fraternity or sorority house, there are a lot of moving parts to the process.

Did my furniture arrive on time? Did I bring everything I need with me? Do I need help loading all of my “stuff” in? Lost in the chaos of the movie-in is your safety and security.

Here are some things to keep in mind when moving into your new place of residence for the school year:

  • When moving in check outside doors to make sure they are secure and not left open. If you notice that a door has been propped open, or does not close properly, report it immediately!
  • Are outside vendors, repair, or delivery people allowed to have access to your building or house? Make sure you are aware of who they are and potentially post a photo of them near entry doors to match faces to names.
  • Double check to see who has been granted access or guest access privileges to your space.
  • Most importantly, keep valuables and prized possessions locked up or with you at all times.

Your safety and security is of utmost importance during move-in, and something to always be keeping in mind. With that being said, best of luck to you all on a brand new school year!
